Inspirational, unique, well-crafted and diverse. These are the words that best describe this inaugural solo recording Leading You Home. Longtime lower mainland artist Jennie Emery has captured the spirit of our collective journey with this high quality and engaging first release.
Jennie has travelled many roads in her fifteen year career as a multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter. Her varied personal and artistic experiences are reflected in the careful attention she has paid to song selection for this project. If you're not attached to one musical genre and you look to music for joy and warmth you'll find something on this CD to call a favourite. The CD features five of her own compositions and a nice mix from other songwriters such as well-known Canadian writer and performer Eileen McGann and respected Vancouver vocalist Corlynn Hanney.
Jennie clearly has a special place in the hearts of some of Vancouver's top musical talent as demonstrated by the stunning array of top flight musicians on this CD. As well as taking the lead on production Rick Kilburn makes sure the tracks are on solid ground with his upright and fretless expertise along with Miles Hill. Tight rhythm by drummer Randall Stoll works well with the string things (that be the guitars and dobro...) of Rob Steininger. You might recognize the dynamic style of saxophonist Karen Graves on a couple of cuts and vocal arrangements are supplemented by Linda Kidder and Corlynn Hanney.
Jennie Emery's emerging light will brighten the day of all who have the privilege to see her perform or take one of these long-awaited CD's into their personal listening library. Jennie Emery, Leading You Home is an extraordinary testimony to one woman's journey and commitment to artistry. This CD is a gift to musical collections and food for the heart.
